Internet English or LoLspeak
With the dawn of the new technological age and the distribution of information has become easier than ever, and with this new medium for information transfer, comes new words and phrases to talk about it.
Never before 1970 had someone had to 'download' something, which is now the bread and butter of the internet, probably one of the greatest inventions in literary history (aside from say the first word) With the internet becoming the 'hip' thing, it brought typing back into fashion, wherein a message had become shorter than the average attention span, abbreviations and internet speak began to emerge, abbreviations like 'LoL' and 'Brb' came into rapid effect when social networking sites became main stream, words like 'Toolbar' and 'firewall' were now common place, phases like 'In y humble opinion' became acronyms like 'IMHO' all just to make it easier and quicker to type. Many thought that with this, english would slowly die out, but with the invention of the smart phone and touch keyboards, illiteracy quickly became regarded as unintelligent and anybody forgetting their, there they're and theirs are swiftly dealt with... English is an ever evolving language, who knows where it will go in future? TTFN (ta ta for now) |
